26 TV Shows Filming in Vancouver This September

There are at least 26 TV shows scheduled for production in Hollywood North for September 2017. The BC Film industry and fans can look forward to 4 brand new series, 3 relocated series, 1 reality show, 1 pilot episode and 17 returning favourite including a revamped Once Upon a Time, a milestone thirteenth season of Supernatural and another special run for The X-Files.

The four new shows underway, which all had their Vancouver-filmed pilots picked up for a first season, are The Good Doctor starring Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel), Life Sentence starring Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars), Siren starring Alex Roe and The Crossing starring Steve Zahn. The three relocated series to Vancouver are Colony from Los Angeles, SIX from North Carolina and California, and The Exorcist from Chicago.

Some of the stars you can expect to see around town during September include: Lucy Hale, John Cho, Olivia Munn, Jennifer Connelly, Melissa Benoist and the entire Riverdale cast including KJ Apa, Cole SProuse, Camila Mendes, Lilli Reinhart and new addition Mark Consuelos.

Starring: Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, Tony Hales
Schedule: Until April 20, 2018

Nathan Fillion and Tony Hales joined the cast of this beloved childhood adaptation starring Neil Patrick Harris of How I Met Your Mother fame. Starring: Stephen Amell, Emily Bett-Rickards, David Ramsey
Schedule: Until April 26, 2018

Step into another action-packed season of the “Arrowverse”. The staple DC Comics superhero show on The CW spawned spinoff shows The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow which also film in Vancouver. An animated spinoff series, Vixen, was also created for the web.

The dystopian near-future Los Angeles set and filmed show moves to Vancouver for production for its third season. One of the sci-fi drama’s creators is the executive producer and co-showrunner of Lost, Carlton Cuse.

A reality television series about mining nephrite jade in British Columbia’s Cassier Mountain region. Narrated by Vancouver’s very own Jason Priestley (90210).

Starring: Cam Gigandet, Jeremy Sisto, Ray Winstone
Schedule: Until September 26, 2017

Audience Network’s hit crime drama series Ice is set in LA. It was created by Robert Munic who first interned on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Atoine Fuqua who is known for Training Day.

Network: The CW
Starring: Rose McIver, Robert Knepper, Robert Buckley
Schedule: Until January 18, 2018

The comic book series of the same name by DC Comics’ Vertigo brings more zombies to the small screen. Robert Knepper known for playing T-Bag on Prison Break was made a series regular for the new season. He also recently appeared on the revival season of Prison Break which was also filmed in Vancouver.


Legends of Tomorrow

Schedule: Until February 26, 2018

After the last season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow wrapped, Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller went on to film the revival season of Prison Break in Vancouver as well.

Life Sentence


Season: 1
Network: The CW
Starring: Lucy Hale
Schedule: Until January 12, 2018

Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale plays Stella who is cured from terminal cancer and has to deal with all the choices she made when she was dying. The pilot was shot in Vancouver earlier this year and picked up for a first season. Pretty Little Liars wrapped up its series earlier this year as well.

Once Upon a Time

Season: 7
Network: ABC
Starring: Lana Parrilla, Robert Carlyle, Colin O’Donoghue
Schedule: Until April 2, 2018

Regular cast members Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan), Rebecca Mader (Zelena), Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White), Josh Dallas (Prince Charming), Jared Gilmore (teenage Henry) and Emilie de Ravin (Belle) have departed from the show. Emma and Belle will each appear in one episode in season 7 to wrap up their respective storylines.

That leaves Lana Parrila (Regina), Robert Carlyle (Rumple) and Colin O’Donoghue (Captain Hook) as OUAT veterans. They are joined by newcomers Mekia Cox (Tiana), Adelaide Kane (Drizella), Rose Reynolds (Alice), Dania Ramirez (Cinderella), Andrew J. West (older Henry) and Gabrielle Anwar (Lady Tremaine).

The mermaid drama series is set in the coastal town of Bristol Cove. The previous title for the show was The Deep.

Starring: Olivia Munn, Walton Goggins, Dominc Adams, Edwin Hodge, Eric Ladin
Schedule: Until November 23, 2017

Olivia Munn joins the cast of this military-drama which was previously filmed in North Carolina and California. It follows the lives and missions of the US Navy’s SEAL Team Six. She shot The Predator in town earlier this spring and The Buddy Games this summer as well.

Network: TNT
Starring: Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs
Schedule: August 28 – September 29, 2017

Vancouver welcomes production for this TV pilot episode which was originally slated for Toronto. Fingers-crossed the show gets picked up and stays in Vancouver long-term! It’s adapted from Bong Joon Ho’s futuristic train thriller and will be set on a space ship. The network has boasted its investment in the elaborate sets for the pilot production which is scheduled for a full five-week stint. Fingers crossed it gets picked up for a season order!

The Hollywood-Cinderella story is a hit on E! Network. It follows the ‘arrangement’ between a young actress and an A-list movie star: a $10 million dollar contract for marriage.

The Crossing

This refugee drama shot its pilot in Vancouver and Vancouver Island this Spring and was picked up for a series order by ABC in May.

The Exorcist

Season: 2

Starring: Alfonso Herrera, Kurt Egyiawan, Ben Daniels, John Cho, Brianna Hildebrand
Schedule: Until November 14, 2017

John Cho (Star Trek, Harold & Kumar) joins the cast of The Exorcist which has moved its production to Vancouver after shooting the first season in Chicago.

The Flash

Starring: Grant Gustin
Schedule: Until April 21, 2018

The spin-off to Arrow is an uber fan favourite sci-fi action show starring Grant Gustin as Barry Allen aka Flash. Danny Trejo will appear in the fourth season.

The Good Doctor


Season: 1
Network: ABC
Starring: Freddie Highmore
Schedule: Until December 15, 2017

Daniel Dae Kim recently announced his departure from CBS’s Hawaii 5-0, but that’s okay since he’ll be busy producing his new show for The Good Doctor starring Freddie Highmore for ABC. The pilot shot around town earlier this spring.

The Magicians

The Man in the High Castle

The X-Files

Schedule: Until December 21, 2017

After a successful revival season airing last year, FOX and its viewers are ready for another! Season 10 filmed in town during 2015 and aired early 2016. The show previously was a staple in Vancouver during the 90’s having filmed 5 seasons and 2 movies here.

When Call the Heart


Season: 5
Network: Hallmark Channel
Starring: Lori Loughlin, Erin Krakow, Daniel Lissing
Schedule: From August 2017

Aunt Becky co-stars in this small town western family drama. The series’ pilot episode originally aired as a movie-of-the-week. The Canadian-American co-production is based on the book Canadian West Series by Janette Oke.

You Me Her

Network: Audience Network
Starring: Greg Poehler, Rachel Blanchard
Schedule: September 5 – October 20, 2017

This American-Canadian co-production is a romcom-drama set in Portland. It’s about a polyamorous relationship and all the that ensues.

Season production for a number of other shows wrapped up in August including Beyond (Freeform), Dirk Gently (FX), Ghost Wars (Syfy) and The Green Beret Guide to the Apocalypse.

Earlier this year a number of productions were lured away from the BC film industry via new California tax incentives. Shows that left the city include Timeless (ABC), Legion (FX) and Lucifer (FOX). The losses seem to be balanced with others relocating to Hollywood North including SIX (History), The Exorcist (FOX) and Colony (USA). Plus there have been recent revival seasons for Prison Break and The X-Files as well as a number of Vancouver-filmed pilots that were picked up as new series.
