It feels good to win, but even better to give back to the community. So, why not do both?
For one retired Vancouver Island couple, they’re celebrating their huge $1 million Scratch & Win prize with plenty of fun and appreciation for their win.
THE $1 MILLION SCRATCH & WIN
Kenneth and Michele Babich of Mill Bay won their massive prize from a $10 In The Money Multiplier Scratch & Win ticket. The top prize for the ticket was $1 million, which they managed to snag with some major luck.
Lotto players can hit a number of different multipliers on the ticket. They go from 2X, 5X, 10X, and then 50X, the top multiplier.
“We were at home and I scratched the ticket,” said Michele to BCLC. “Then I showed Kenneth after checking [on the BCLC Lotto! App]. He thought it was $50, seeing the 50X.”
Turns out, it was a little more than $50.
Kenneth said that the reason he and Michele enjoy and appreciate the lottery is because of “all the different ways the community benefits from the money generated from [them].” Winning and giving back at the same time is pretty great, and the ecstatic couple is now using their prize money for a cruise they’ve just booked.
While they haven’t told their children just yet, they plan to soon. On how it feels to win, Michele said that “it will help with our quality of life.” Moreover, the couple said that “it’s going to help us give back more to the causes we are passionate about.”
OTHER B.C. WINNERS
B.C. has seen plenty of other lottery winners in the past months. Recently, a Kamloops man won B.C.’s largest Scratch & Win prize ever at $5 million.
Other record-breakers include a Surrey man’s win of $80 million, making him the biggest lottery jackpot winner that B.C. has ever seen. A Vancouver man also won $40 million after he nearly forgot to check his tickets.
If you’re planning on buying a lottery ticket, just remember: know your limit, play within it.
