Canada has just issued an urgent recall regarding a popular yogurt drink. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people to not “consume, use, sell, serve or distribute [the] recalled products” as pieces of plastic were found inside of it.

YOP Recall In Canada
The recall concerns Yoplait brand YOP Drinkable Yogurt as they may contain “extraneous material” – specifically plastic pieces. A popular drink among kids, most of the recalled products include the 200 mL size bottles, ranging in a number of flavours, and all Best Before dates up to and including 2026JA12. This recall affects all of Canada, as well.
A recall is also given a class, depending on the hazard. This includes Class I, II, and III, which all have differing levels of severity. At the lowest level, Class III hazards have low risks, although they may cause undesirable health problems. Class II hazards are slightly more serious as they can lead to short-term or non-life threatening health issues. The YOP Drinkable Yogurt recall is classified as a Class I hazard meaning that “there is a high risk that consuming the food may lead to serious health problems or death.”

The CFIA notes that consumers should check to see if their products are on the recall list. If they are, then they should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased. The recall was originally triggered by Yoplait Canada itself. Moreover, there have been no reported injuries associated with the consumption of the products.
As of now, the CFIA is currently conducting a food safety investigation, “which may lead to the recall of other products.” The organization is also verifying that the industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace.
