Toys “R” Us Returns To Canada
While Toys “R” Us’ American parent company initially filed for bankruptcy in 2017, Canadian locations continued operations until early 2026. A slew of shutdowns in 2025 and 2026 saw locations close down across Canada, including B.C. and its iconic storefront on Broadway. The final B.C. location in Langley’s Willowbrook Shopping Centre closed in January 2026.

Now, Toys “R” Us is set to return, but a little differently. Instead of operating as a standalone storefront, you’ll soon be able to find the toy shop inside of Staples.
In a press release, Staples Canada CEO said,
As a Canadian company, with close to 300 stores and 11,000 employees serving communities across every province, we’re proud to help write the next chapter for a brand that has been part of childhood in Canada for generations. By bringing Toys“R”Us Canada and Parties“R”Us Canada into our national retail network, we’re creating an exciting new destination for Canadian families, with more choice, convenience and engaging experiences in store and online.
When Will the Stores Open?
The rollout will begin this holiday season with its pilot location in Richmond Hill, Ontario, as well as a digital experience on the Staples website. After that, it will continue throughout 2027 to bring “shop-in-shop experiences” to around 300 Staples locations across Canada.

The stores plan to have a dedicated retail space and curated, exclusive product assortments. Moreover, Parties “R” Us will offer an “all-new retail concept” that offers a variety of party products, including balloons, party goods, seasonal essentials, and licensed party products.
What do you think about Toys “R” Us returning to Canada?
