On Tuesday, July 2nd, the New Westminster Police Department announced that it is switching to electronic ticketing.

As part of the Provincial Road Safety Initiative, all municipal police departments and the RCMP will eventually implement the technology.

With electronic ticketing, police officers can have the details needed to issue a traffic ticket automatically filled with the swipe of a driver’s license. After this, the ticket will be printed from the police vehicle and the information is shared directly with ICBC.

“Drivers can pay their ticket online,” stated Sergeant Greg Smith, of the NWPD Traffic Unit, “And thanks to the auto-fill feature, this will result in [sic] less time pulled off to the side of the road with fewer administrative errors.”

The New Westminster Police Department Traffic Unit will start using electronic ticketing this summer and ramp them up as more vehicles become equipped with the technology.

If you have any questions about e-ticketing you can email [email protected] or call 604-525-5411.
