If you’re travelling to Japan this August, you may want to practice extra caution.
The Government of Canada has recently updated its travel advice for Canadians heading to Japan as Typhoon Saudel is expected to hit the country soon.

Typhoon Saudel in Japan
Typhoon Saudel is a massive typhoon that is expected to make landfall through southern Japan from August 24 to 27, 2026. Okinawa, as well as other Japanese southwestern islands, have already seen 230mm of rainfall, with landslide warnings rippling throughout the Amami region.
While the typhoon is now shifting away from Japan and heading toward China, the advisory remains in place for travellers heading to Japan during this time.
“The storm is likely to bring excessive rainfall and violent winds. It may cause flash flooding and landslides,” notes the federal government. Severe disruptions could affect these services:
- transportation
- power distribution
- water and food supply
- telecommunications networks
- emergency services
- medical care
Those in the affected area are advised to exercise caution, monitor local news and weather reports, and follow the instructions of local authorities.
