Canadians Can Now Compete In Eurovision: How To Apply

Think you’ve got what it takes to represent Canada at the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest? Lucky for all you singers out there, Canada has officially put its hat into the ring for the competition that has been responsible for launching acts like ABBA, Måneskin, and Céline Dion into world fame.

2027 Eurovision Song Contest

The Eurovision Song Contest is a major international song competition that has been hosted annually by the European Broadcasting Union since 1956. Every year, participating countries submit an original song to represent them, which are then performed live. Votes are cast to determine a winner.

Even if you’ve never heard of Eurovision itself, you’ve definitely heard music from it. ABBA is one of its biggest successes, who represented Sweden in 1974 with “Waterloo”.

How to Submit

2027 will be the first year Canada is competing in Eurovision, which means history is about to be made. If you’ve got the vocal chords to wow the voters, then here’s what you need to know about the upcoming competition:

Submissions open August 31 and close September 9
All applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents
All applicants must be aged 18 or older

For those looking to apply, they can access the portal through https://cbc.radio-canada.ca/en/eurovision. Once the registration period is over, CBC/Radio-Canada will select a short list of musicians, with the finalists announced in the fall.

After that, Canadians will get to choose who their favourite acts are via a digital vote. You’ll be able to check out all the performance videos on a Eurovision Song Contest Canada website.

Once the public votes are in, they’ll be combined with a review from an independent jury of music experts who will determine which finalist will go on to represent Canada in May 2027.
