Here’s All The Roads That Will Be Closed In Metro Vancouver For Events This Weekend

The last of the warm weather is officially leaving Metro Vancouver. You can expect a whole lot of rain and chillier temperatures, but that doesn’t mean much when everyone is so used to wetter conditions.

Either way, plenty of events are still happening throughout the Lower Mainland. If you’re heading out, these are all the weekend road closures that you need to know about.

Weekend Road Closures In Metro Vancouver

UNDER ARMOUR EASTSIDE 10K: SEPTEMBER 21

The Under Armour Eastside 10k is returning for another year. This race takes runners through the historic east side of Vancouver, with plenty of industrial sights to take in while they head through some of Vancouver’s most iconic locations. Participants are able to take part either in-person or virtually.

Obviously, you won’t have to worry about the virtual 10k disrupting your drive. As for the in-person race, you can expect closures on the following streets:

  • Abbott St.
  • Cordova St.
  • Cambie St.
  • Water St.
  • Alexander St.
  • Gore Ave.
  • Powell St. (Eastbound and Westbound lanes)
  • Princess St.
  • Jackson Ave.
  • Heatley Ave.
  • Hawks Ave.
  • Dundas St. (Eastbound and Westbound lanes)
  • Templeton Dr.
  • Franklin Dr.
  • Nanaimo SB
  • Pandora St.
  • Railway St.
  • Columbia St.
  • Carrall St.

THE SHIPYARDS FESTIVAL: SEPTEMBER 20

The Shipyards Festival is an annual event that brings the entire North Vancouver community together. With live music, good vibes, and tons to see and do, this is one huge party that celebrates everything that makes North Vancouver such a fantastic place to be. The event will be taking place at Carrie Cates.

The following roads will be closed due to the festival:

  • East 1st (September 19 – 21)
    • 100 block of East 1st Street will be closed to parking
    • EV chargers at 140 East 1st Street will be unavailable
    • On September 20, the east/west lane of East 1st will be local traffic only.
  • Victory Ship Way and Wallace Mews (September 20)
    • Event-only parking

FIRE DRAGON FESTIVAL: SEPTEMBER 19 – 20

Returning to Vancouver’s Chinatown is the Fire Dragon Festival. This yearly celebration invites folks around the city to take part in a cultural party that features performances, activities, and a lot of really good food. As expected, there will be a Fire Dragon dance performance to marvel at.

The parade will begin on Carrall Street. Then, it will head down Keefer Street until the Chinatown Memorial Plaza on Columbia Street.

END OF SUMMER BLOCK PARTY: SEPTEMBER 20

To end off the parties, it’s the End of Summer Block Party in Mount Pleasant. Hosted by the Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area (MPBIA), this community celebration brings plenty of delicious food, live entertainment, shopping, and kids’ activities for that one last summer hurrah.

The party will be taking place at 11th Avenue and Kingsway, so you can expect those roads to be closed for the duration of the festivities.
