Organization Filipino BC has announced that Lapu Lapu Day Festival will be making a return in 2026. Planned for the weekend of April 18 to 19, the festival plans to emphasize cultural celebration, care, and connection in conjunction with collective healing after 2025’s tragedy.

The festival’s date takes place approximately one week before the one-year anniversary of the 2025 tragedy that occurred at the previous event. On Instagram, Filipino BC wrote that, “this weekend was intentionally chosen to allow the following weekend to remain open for memorial gatherings and time for mourning.”
“Filipino BC has reached out to those in our care and continues to engage with community members to ensure safety, intention, and meaningful participation throughout the planning process. We will also continue working closely with the City of Vancouver, the Province of British Columbia, and first responders to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place.”

Some event partners include Latincouver, Blueprint Events and EVENTLab, with the event itself taking place at the Italian Cultural Centre. According to organizers, this venue was chosen because its entry and exit points can be controlled while still allowing for programming.
Latincouver Executive Director Paolo Murillo said in a statement that “our partnership with Filipino BC for Lapu Lapu Day 2026 reflects our shared commitment to supporting one another, honouring those we’ve lost, and uplifting our communities through culture, connection, and solidarity.”
Filipino BC says that further details about the event will be released soon. They also acknowledged that news of festival’s announcement may “bring up difficult feelings for some members of [their] community”.
