It has been nearly three months since the tragic incident unfolded at the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party. A man has been accused of driving his SUV through the festival’s crowd, resulting in 11 deaths and many others injured.
Suspect Adam Kai-Ji Lo has since been in custody. He is to appear in a court hearing on Wednesday and Thursday to assess his mental fitness to stand trial.
THE CHARGES
Lo was initially charged with eight counts of second-degree murder, although that has now increased with three more counts. According to the Vancouver Police, “The additional charges were approved by the BC Prosecution Service following a review of evidence submitted by Vancouver Police Homicide investigators.”

The victims of the alleged attack include two men, eight women, and a five-year-old girl.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Since the attack, the Metro Vancouver Filipino community has come together to support one another. GoFundMes, blood donations, and other community support systems have been established to assist those who have lost loved ones due to the tragedy.
Plans are also presumably still underway for a more permanent memorial for the incident, although the City of Vancouver has come under fire for their Lapu Lapu Day tribute that was apparently organized without consulting the affected families and the organization Filipino BC.
Lo’s second court hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
