Canada has recently updated some of its travel advisories. And while now is the perfect time to get away from the cold Fall weather, you may want to think twice about heading to that tropical spot across the ocean.
CANADA TRAVEL ADVISORIES
Canada’s travel advisories are split into four distinct categories. At the top, people are advised to avoid travel at all costs; and at the bottom, travellers are encouraged to take normal precautions.

Here are some of the new advisories that have been recently issued.
TROPICAL DESTINATION WARNINGS
- Cuba: Exercise a high degree of caution (with regional advisories)
- Cuba is currently experiencing an outbreak of Oropouche virus disease. Although the disease has been previously present in the Americas, an uptick in cases is making it quite notable. It is spread through midges (a small type of fly) biting humans, and can lead to serious illness– especially for pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems. There is no vaccine for the virus. There have also been reports of hepatitis A in recent travellers.
- Indonesia: Exercise a high degree of caution (with regional advisories)
- Demonstrations in Jakarta have resulted in violent incidents, leading to police responding with tear gas and water cannons against crowds. Moreover, the country is prone to natural disasters such as tsunamis, flooding, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes.
- Philippines: Exercise a high degree of caution (with regional advisories)
- Due to the Philippines increasing its fight against terrorists, there is a militant presence throughout the country. Climate change has also led to more extreme and unusual weather events occurring, such as earthquakes and tsunamis.
- Honduras: Exercise a high degree of caution (with regional advisories)
- Violent crime has remained prevalent throughout Honduras in spite of the situation slightly improving since 2022. Drug trafficking and organized crime, as well as street gang activity, are also major issues in certain neighbourhoods. Petty crime is also a recurrent problem, like pickpocketing and bag snatching.
- Mexico: Exercise a high degree of caution (with regional advisories)
- Criminal activity and kidnapping are high throughout Mexico. Violent crime is especially prevalent in the country, with some popular tourist areas and resorts becoming caught in the crossfire. Although Mexican authorities have tried to prevent tourists from the danger, it is always a possibility that they may become sites of criminal violence.
