Due to construction, Metro Vancouver Regional District (MVRD) has issued a traffic alert for those travelling through Burnaby.

The city is currently working on the Westridge Sewer System, which is being upgraded to replace aging infrastructure and prevent future leaks. The upgrade intends to improve system performance, as well as ensure the “continued protection of human health and the environment.”
Drivers should expect “significant traffic delays” at the intersection of Hastings Street and Inlet Drive at Cliff Avenue for about three months, starting November 4, 2026.

If you’re in the area, you’ll likely run into intermittent lane closures, with turning restrictions and detours in place. This includes:
- No right turns from Hastings Street (eastbound) onto Hastings Street (toward SFU)
- No left turns from Hastings Street (eastbound) onto Cliff Avenue
- Pedestrian and driver detours
Do note that traffic patterns will change as construction progresses through the intersection.
MVRD asks drivers to allow for extra travel time if they’re in the area, and to consider alternate routes.
