Pieces Of The Giant Science World Soccer Ball Are Now For Sale

With summer wrapping up and the FIFA World Cup being officially over for some time now, The Beautiful Dome is saying goodbye, as well.

Although you won’t be able to see this colourful landmark anymore, you can do something even cooler than look at it from afar— you can own a piece of it!

The Beautiful Dome at Science World

While the FIFA World Cup was still in Vancouver, the iconic Science World Dome was transformed into the World Cup’s recognizable official match ball design, the adidas Trionda. The project was comprised of 131 custom-shaped and sized panels.

On the project, Tracy Redies, President & CEO of Science World, said,

Forty years after it first welcomed the world at Expo 86, the dome that now houses Science World is proud to be part of another extraordinary moment in Vancouver’s history. This unique installation is a bold feat of engineering and a testament to what is possible through creativity and collaboration. We are excited to welcome visitors from around the world and be part of an experience that will inspire and unite people.

The panels began coming down on September 8, with a select number being donated “as a legacy initiative to local organizations.” This includes Science World, BC Place, the BC Soccer Association, Canada Soccer, the Province of British Columbia, the Museum of Vancouver, and Destination Vancouver.

You Can Own a Part of the Dome, Too

The remaining panels will be transformed into entirely new products. Through a unique upcycling program, they’ll be turned into The Beautiful Dome 2026 Collection. The products range from large patio umbrellas to shopping totes. Each item will carry a distinct part of the panel’s design.

According to a press release, “100% of net proceeds will support Science World’s STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and design, and math) initiatives to build future-ready talent and engage young learners throughout British Columbia.”
