Canada has just issued a major travel advisory for anyone visiting the Philippines. Due to a massive natural disaster, travel is not advised for certain parts of the country as serious damage and danger is expected.
Philippines Travel Advisory
Travel advisories are set in four different categories by the Canadian government. While at the lower end, travellers are told to use standard safety practices– or exercise higher degrees of caution– the more serious travel advisories inform Canadians to either avoid non-essential travel or avoid it altogether.
As for the Philippines, northern Luzon is currently under an “avoid non-essential travel” advisory due to Typhoon Fung-Wong (Uwan). This warning also applies to the following areas:
- Cordillera Administrative Region
- Ilocos Region
- Cagayan Valley
- Aurora, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija provinces in Central Luzon Region
Typhoon Fung-Wong (Uwan)
Typhoon Fung-Wong is expected to make landfall on or around November 10, 2025. It will begin on the coast of Isabela and Aurora provinces and then sweep across northern Luzon as a very strong typhoon.
Typhoons have historically caused major, widespread damage to the Philippines. Just recently on November 3, 2025, Typhoon Kalmaegi made landfall between Eastern Samar and the Dinagat Islands. Significant damage to buildings and infrastructure occurred, as well as over 100 casualties and mass displacements.

Flash floods and landslides may potentially occur during Typhoon Fung-Wong; and excessive rainfall and violent winds are also expected. Essential services may be severely disrupted during the storm, including:
- Medical care
- Emergency services
- Telecommunications networks
- Transportation
- Power distribution
- Water and food supply
As of now, Canadians are advised to avoid non-essential travel to northern Luzon. For more information, you can check out the Philippines travel advisory page here.
