Minimum wage is on the rise across Canada, but one province is lagging sorely behind.
MINIMUM WAGE ACROSS CANADA
Many provinces have had a boost to their minimum wages this year. To assist in the continuous rise of Canada’s cost of living, these increases are necessary to help keep the country’s lowest-paid workers afloat.
British Columbia is just one of many places that have had an increase to its minimum wage. With a jump to $17.85, B.C.’s is one of the highest in the country. Other provinces that saw an increase earlier in 2025 were New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as the territories Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Nunavut holds the title as having the highest minimum wage in Canada at $19.75. On the other hand, the country’s bottom minimum wage is as low as $15.00.
PAY INCREASES
On October 1, five provinces saw an addition to their minimum wages. This includes:
- Manitoba: $16.00
- Nova Scotia: $16.50
- Ontario: $17.60
- Prince Edward Island: $16.50
- Saskatchewan: $15.35
The pay increases range from an added 20 to 80 cents, with Nova Scotia having the biggest jump.
Nine provinces and three territories have had minimum wage raises in 2025. The only province that has not given a boost to its lowest-paid workers is Alberta, with its last increase being in June 2019.
