Luckily for everyone in Canada, they won’t have to fly overseas anymore to get their hands on them soon.
7-Eleven Japan
There’s a reason why 7-Eleven in Japan is so viral. From the cheap snacks to the delicious meal options, it’s certainly not like anything Canada has. The aspect of konbini (“convenience store”) is a staple in modern Japanese culture, representing so much more than just a place to grab a late-night treat. Stores like 7-Eleven provide meals, a place to pick up and send packages, and grab whatever you need for the day, from hand warmers to last-minute umbrellas. Food, most of all, has been the biggest driver of konbini.

But that egg salad sandwich has a particular love from both the country it comes from and tourists. 7-Eleven themselves are described as a “national treasure“, with loads of travel blogs having recommended it (the store and the sandwich) to thousands upon thousands of other travellers. Plenty of sandwich fans have been trying to find dupes for it outside of Japan.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that a single sandwich has a cult-following all across the world.
When Will The 7-Eleven Egg Salad Sandwiches Come To Canada?
Very soon— in fact, they’ll be here in less than a month.
By March 4, you’ll be able to eat some of Japan’s tamago sando from Canadian 7-Elevens. They released back in December in the U.S. to major excitement, although the American version did differ from Japan’s.
7-Eleven plans to use cage-free eggs, Japanese Kewpie mayo, and fresh shokupan (milk bread) to make the sandwiches. Marc Goodman, vice-president and general manager of 7-Eleven Canada. said, “We have heard loud and clear from Canadians that they want more of the products that make 7-Eleven Japan a tourist destination.”
“Bringing our take on the Japanese-style Egg Salad Sandwich to Canada has long been a priority.”
