With the rise of online shopping, Loblaws Companies Ltd. is finally delivering what many shoppers in Vancouver have been desperately waiting for: online grocery shopping.
Dubbed “click-and-collect”, the new e-commerce option allows shoppers to add almost anything from The Real Canadian Superstore to their cart, ranging from milk and bread to toothpaste and electronics.
Online shoppers will receive the same prices and deals as in-store shoppers, and will also have the option of selecting same day pickup. The only catch however, is that the minimum order must be $30.00.
Loblaws has tested “click-and-collect” in 26 stores across Ontario for the past year, and have determined the new convenience program is the “right first step for Canadian consumers”.
To kickoff the new e-shop, the following four Superstores in British Columbia will offer click-and-collect: Grandview Highway in Vancouver, Langley, Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam, and Kelowna.
Within the next few weeks, additional Superstores in Vancouver and Coquitlam will be added to the program, as well as Red Deer, Alta.
Many marketers suspect that the launch of Superstores new e-store is in response, and preparation for Amazon’s “AmazonFresh”, which is an online grocery service currently being tested in Seattle and California.
Thus far, Amazon has been the most successful e-commerce business in the world, and the threat to big grocery chains along with brick-and-mortar shops is something owners can’t risk to ignore.
