Willowbrook Lanes will be closing on April 30th, 2018, after three decades of staying alive. What’s more, it’s the only five pin bowling lane in Langley, with 20 five pin lanes.

The bowling establishment has been a local Langley favourite. And, it’s had its fair share of childhood birthday parties, late night hangouts, and shared memories.

It originally opened on Canada Day, 1981. Five years later, Willowbrook Lanes was acquired by the Bob and Cheryl Randall, who then operated it for the next 30 years. In 2016, the ownership was switched over.

“We were a lot of firsts. The first ones to completely paint and give the bowling alley a theme, the first ones to bring in extreme bowling,” said Bob Randall, previous owner of Willowbrook Lanes.

The beloved lanes were where the Big Brothers Big Sisters Langley held their annual Bowl-A-Thon, ‘Bowl For Kids Sake.’

This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters Langley had their 39th annual Bowl-A-Thon at the lanes. Consequently, they raised $20,000 to aid their mentoring programs.

“It was just good old fashioned fun,” said Sarah Szakacs, a local Langleyite. “A nice change from the bar and club scene, where you could interact fully with another person while enjoying their company.”

It’s being replaced by the Korean grocery store, Hannam. Hannam Supermarket was the first Korean supermarket in Vancouver. They boast over 20,000 Korean products, including household appliances, produce, and more.

Join Willowbrook Lanes on April 26th for their final farewell, leaving one last memory. In addition, they will be offering a 2 for 1 bowling deal from 5PM to 8PM, as well as free refreshments and snacks.

“The most fun part of the job was getting to know the community. Our staff and community were like a family,” stated Randall.
