Two members of the Vancouver Fire and Rescue are heading to to Texas to participate in the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

Captain Jonathan Gormick says the opportunity is an invaluable learning experience for the entire team. The special training that they will receive from witnessing crisis management on a disaster of this magnitude could come in handy if Vancouver ever experiences a similar catastrophe.

Deputy chief Brian Godlonton and special operations training officer team leader Kirk Heaven went down to Houston on August 29th.

The members were received by the Texas search and rescue team, Texas Task Force One. The team is currently coordinating its efforts with a combined 12,000 personnel to combat the extensive flooding in the area.

Godlonton and Heaven are set to remain in Texas for approximately the next two weeks.
