If dating in Vancouver has made you a little jaded—you’re likely not alone. Most people new to Vancouver quickly pick up on the fact that it’s hard to meet new people here when out and about.

Groups tend to stick more to themselves which turn a lot of singles to dating apps: Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, POF—the list goes on. But at the end of the day, they’re mostly all the same. And swiping right will only get you so far.

So if you hate dating and need some date night ideas where you won’t be bored to death or feel overly awkward—check out our recommendations of the best spots.

Seawall Walk

A typical first date involves grabbing a coffee and then sitting and staring at each other like it’s an interview. For someone who likes dating, maybe this is enjoyable. But for those who are jaded and feel uncomfortable sitting there playing 21 questions—maybe skip it. Or grab a coffee to go and then go for a leisurely stroll along the seawall. It’s a quick date that can give you a good read on the person and it’s not as awkward if there’s silences while you take in the scenery.

Mini Golf

Opt for a date you’ll have fun at regardless if there’s a romantic spark. That’s why activities are a much better choice than a traditional dinner date where you’re forced to have long conversations instead of just having fun and playing a game together.

Go Karting

Again, an activity is always the better choice. And nobody has a bad time go-karting. Bring out the inner kid in you, relax and enjoy each other’s company. If there’s isn’t a connection—you at least got to rip up the track a bit. It allows you to do something fun together and show off your competitive side.

Back-and-Forth Bar

When all else fails, alcohol. This spot you can meet for a drink which will make you more open to getting to know someone (hopefully). And instead of just sitting there at a table like most other bars, you can get up and enjoy a friendly game of ping pong.

A Concert or Comedy Show

Nothing brings people together more than music and/or comedy. Don’t attend a big concert together, but a local show at the Orpheum or Vogue Theatre is a great date night activity that you’ll be sure to have a good time at. As for comedy, check out shows at TheatreSports on Granville Island. They use teams of performers who compete in improv based on audience suggestions.
