It’s hardly breaking news that the job market has been particularly rough as of late. If you’re looking for a job– or perhaps even a career change– then it might be worth checking out Statistics Canada’s listings.
You could earn some big bucks for these positions, including a salary of $131,000!
REQUIREMENTS
For many of these openings, you are only required to have a high school education, as well as some applicable training or experience. While some do ask for you to have at least completed a two-year program at a post-secondary institution, an appropriate combination of training and/or experience can also suffice.
A number of these positions are also located in eastern Canada. This includes a Field Operations Supervisor and Recruitment Clerk. To those of you who don’t mind relocating for work, then these jobs may be of interest to you.

As for western Canada, two listing are available: Field Operation Managers and various administrative positions. Field Operation Managers are the managerial folk who contribute to operational plans for census data collection, as well as being the ones who oversee the collection.
The Field Operation Managers position is for those located in Vancouver, Kelowna, Prince George, and Whitehorse. It’s also the highest-paying position out of all the listings, with the salary ranging from $131,278 to $131,375. For the administrative positions, they are located throughout Canada, including in Vancouver with a salary ranging from $57,217 to $61,761.
FIELD OPERATION MANAGERS
So, what are the requirements for applying to be a Field Operation Manager with Statistics Canada? You must:
- Complete at least a two-year program in a post-secondary institution. Accepted specializations include social science, statistics, library/archival work, or a law-related field
- OR have an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience
- Be action-oriented and show initiative
- Achieve results
- Have effective written communication
These are just the baseline requirements, but later-assessed skills also include behavioral competencies– such as mobilizing people and effective oral communication– as well as experience in managing during Census and recruitment.
