Sinkhole Shuts Down Port Coquitlam On-Ramp

Commuters who use the Mary Hill Bypass from eastbound on Lougheed Highway are encouraged to plan an alternate route as a sinkhole was discovered on the on-ramp, resulting in a traffic backup this morning.

According to the manager of engineering operations, Mani Deo, a water-main under the pavement broke last night around 9:00pm, leading to a sinkhole this morning.

“We’re trying to determine if it’s feasible for us to work in the area and get the water main fix happening, but at the same time, perhaps build a temporary ramp off of Lougheed so that traffic can get back onto the ramp and eventually make its way to the Mary Hill Bypass” said Deo.

Crews are planning to add in a temporary fix for the next few days, but won’t be able to install one until later this afternoon or early tomorrow morning.

Until then, drivers are encouraged to use the Coast Meridian overpass to get onto the Mary Hill bypass.
