Sears Canada announced in October that it would be closing all of its doors for good, and now the retail giant is in the spotlight for a different reason.

While the mega chain was meant to be liquidating its remaining assets last month, some customers claim that they marked up prices before doing so.

Now, The Competition Bureau is undergoing an investigation into whether these allegations are true.

“The monitor says the regulator sent letters on Nov. 8 to the liquidators inquiring about the allegations that certain merchandise was marked up,” reports Global News.

Customers posted pictures to social media as evidence that the retailer had raised prices prior to liquidation.

Back in February Sears announced that it was closing eight locations, four of which were in British Columbia locations. The locations that closed were located in Richmond, Langley, Abbotsford, and Victoria.

Sears stated that these closures were part of a strategic business move; however, the move was not enough to save the struggling retailer.
