Imagine wandering through a venue after-hours while sipping on a plethora of cocktails crafted by Vancouver’s top mixologists. On February 8th, Vancouver’s iconic Science World transformed into the largest cocktail laboratory in the city.
The highly-anticipated Science of Cocktails returned for its second year – bringing 1500 cocktail lovers together under one roof to drink, eat, and enjoy a truly unique experience.

It’s indulgence in all forms, with an open bar to over 25 different tables and 12 food-pairing stations. Guests can sample beverages from the city’s most talented bartenders and learn about the chemistry, biology and physics behind preparing cocktails.
The event allowed guests to get hands on with special experiments. These are just a few of the fun activities that were on tap:
Shake Machine: Use this mechanical cocktail shaker to try shaking 4 cocktails with one hand.
Electricity Zone: Experience static electric fun with the hair raising Van de Graaff Generator and witness the awesome power of the lightning spewing Tesla Coil.
Tinkering ‘Tinker-Bling’: Craft yourself a light up LED necklace or bow tie by creating your own custom circuit.
Cocktail Shaker Challenge: See if you have the strength and speed to be a professional bartender using sensor technology to track how fast you can accelerate a classic cocktail shaker.
Ping Pong Cannon: Witness the awesome power of air pressure as an ordinary ping pong ball is accelerated to over 700km/h – fast enough to puncture straight through the side of an aluminum beer can.
Some bartenders took part in a cocktail competition, including Andrea Civettini of Clough Club, Aimee Corno of Woods Spirits, Brice Peressini of The Victor and more.
Cocktail stations showcased liquid nitrogen, smoked cocktails, nitro muddling and alcoholic slushies.
What made the event even more awesome is that it’s all for a good cause. It raised $276,695, with all proceeds going to Science World Class Field Trip Bursary. The program helps children from underprivileged schools go on a free field trip to Science World.
