The Richmond Night Market will be the lone night market this year, with the Illumination Summer Night Market announcing their cancellation.
The Illumination Summer Night Market was located at 2631 Vulcan Way in Richmond. The reason for the cancellation is unknown, but there has been speculation that low traffic and loss of income are part of the reason.
The Illumination Summer Night Market has had several names over the years, which has often led to confusion. They originally launched as the International Summer Night Market in 2008. They then switched over to the Panda Night Market twice, and eventually became the Illumination Summer Night Market in 2017.

They took over the Richmond Night Market’s original site in 2008 and have been there ever since. While a foodie favourite, the Illumination Summer Night Market received about half the traffic than the other market, despite being labeled as one of the “World’s Top Night Markets” by BBC travel.
The original ‘Richmond Night Market’ is still up and running, and will make its 2018 debut this May.
Richmond Night Market
Over the years, it’s become one of the biggest night markets in all of North America, with over 100 food stalls and 200 vendors.
Due to their growth and land development, there is a chance that the Richmond Night Market will have to move out of its current location next to the River Rock Casino sometime in 2019.
