Over 2.4 Million Canadian Voters Turnout For Advance Voting

Canada Day - Canada Named 2nd Best Country In The World - Over 2.4 Million Canadian Voters Turnout For Advance Voting - canada day vancouver 2015 - Canada Ranked First For Freest Country In The World

The long weekend drew long lineups as Elections Canada reports over 2.4 million Canadians visited advance polls to cast their votes between October 9, and October 12.

The agency estimates that 850,000 Canadians voted on Friday, 780,000 on Saturday, and another 767,000 on Sunday. Monday’s count has yet to be added to the total. The high turnout is a significant 16 per cent jump past the 2 million that voted during advance polling in 2011.

With the high amount of voter turnout, many complained about long wait times at several polling locations across metro Vancouver. This was heavily due to the amount of polling stations at each location, which was one third of what voters can expect to see during Election Day on October 19.

Voters yet to cast their ballots can still vote ahead of voting day at an Elections Canada office or by mail. The deadline to apply to vote by mail or at an Elections Canada office is Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 6:00 pm.
