A new warning was issued by the U.S. for Canada on June 11.

The U.S. Department of State declared a Level 1 travel advisory for the country due to a growing wildfire season. U.S. citizens are encouraged to “exercise normal precautions in Canada” as the 2025 wildfire season continues to burn.

TRAVEL ADVISORY

Because of record-breaking wildfires across all provinces and territories, U.S. citizens are being urged to exercise caution, whether they are living or travelling in Canada. The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Canada website notes that:

“In Canada, wildfires are common in forested and grassland regions from May to September. In 2024, Canada was affected by record-breaking wildfires affecting all 13 provinces and territories. We urge U.S. citizens visiting or living in Canada to be aware of wildfire conditions in their area and follow guidance from local authorities.”

With the nearby Dryden Creek wildfire still burning– and growingMetro Vancouver citizens should also be following guidance according to BC Wildfire Service. The wildfire has since ballooned to a massive 54 hectares, with additional evacuation notices sent out for nearby Squamish citizens. Increased wind activity has caused “growth along the north flank, however, existing containment lines on the south and southwest flanks continue to hold,” notes the Government of Squamish website.

INSTRUCTIONS

For Americans in Canada, they are being asked to follow general instructions, which includes dialing 911 for emergency services, as well as reviewing the Government of Canada’s wildfire page for information.

They are also being asked to review the CDC page for the latest Travel Health Information, and to return to the U.S.

The travel advisory also notes that “Canada is generally a safe destination for travelers.”

As for Canadians, they are welcome to “take normal security measures” when travelling to the U.S., according to the Government of Canada’s website. Although some areas are noted as being more dangerous than others as of now, the risk level is considered low.
