The play follows the titular Shrek, an ogre who lives in a swamp that neighbours the Kingdom of Duloc. One day, Shrek’s beloved home becomes overrun by banished fairy tale creatures and he strikes a deal with Lord Farquaad in order to regain his privacy, which leads him to embark on an epic and perilous journey to rescue Princess Fiona while aided by the talkative Donkey. Along the way, Shrek falls in love with the princess, and the unlikely trio set off on an adventure.
