Boa Constrictor On The Loose in Surrey

UPDATE: The snake was found and is no longer on the loose.

Watch out below!

A massive, 5-foot long, yellow and white albino boa constrictor is on the loose in Surrey.

The animal escaped from its owner’s residence on Saturday, July 29th, and is now at large in the Fleetwood area.

The snakes’ owner, Travis Pete, told the Peace Arch News that, “One of the plastic pieces on the cage that I bought from the store broke off, so it must have gotten loose.”

While experts speculate that the animal does not pose an immediate threat to people or pets, there are still some safety precautions to keep in mind. As the animal comes from the constrictor family, it possesses the ability to wrap itself tightly around a party part. With this in mind, picking the snake up and wrapping it around your neck probably isn’t the best idea.

Experts speculate that the animal itself is in grave danger, as it is an exotic pet that is not native to British Columbia. It could succumb to death by exposure, starvation, or even by another predator.

The snake, named Snow, is female and hasn’t had a great deal of interaction with people.

If you come across her you are advised not to touch her. The best course of action is to contact Pete directly at 604-365-9140 or the Surrey Animal Control.
