Daylight saving time won’t be ending for B.C., but that’s causing some problems at places that deal with multiple time zones, including the Canada-U.S. border in the province.

Due to the U.S. adopting seasonal time changes soon, the border will be seeing some adjustments to its operating hours.

Time Changes at B.C. Borders

On November 1 at 2:00am (Pacific Time), nine land ports of entry in B.C. that connect the province to the U.S. will be adopting new hours. This change is to “maintain alignment with hours at the neighbouring U.S. ports of entry.”

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) explained in a press release, “This change follows British Columbia’s decision to adopt permanent year-round daylight saving time. Since the United States will continue to change its clocks seasonally, adjusting the operating hours at the BC ports of entry in the fall and spring means alignment of service hours between Canada and the U.S. will be maintained year-round at these nine sites.”

The new hours will be in effect from November 1 until March 14, 2027.

“These adjustments in hours of operation will allow for better coordination between Canada and the U.S., including in cases where a traveller is inadmissible and is directed to return immediately to the country they came from. It will also mean greater clarity for all travellers as to when the ports of entry are operating.”
