Walmart To Takeover 4 British Columbia Target Locations

Target Canada To Close All Vancouver Stores

Walmart Canada has announced it will purchase 13 of the former Target Canada stores including 4 within British Columbia. In addition, Walmart will also takeover Target’s distribution centre Cornwall, Ontario.

The expansion will cost Walmart an estimated $350 million with $165 million going towards the properties and leases. The remaining $185 million will be spent on renovations.

The $350 million project is subject to court approval, as per Target’s exit from the Canadian market announced earlier this year.

Once approved, Walmart will begin to roll-out renovations as early as August, which is good news for Canadian job seekers. According to Walmart, the company will hire approximately 1,500 trade and construction workers during renovations and an additional 2,400 Canadians to set up and staff the new stores. The company will also hire 1,000 people for the distribution centre in Ontario.

List of locations Walmart will takeover in British Columbia:

  • Scottsdale Mall, Delta
  • Coquitlam Centre, Coquitlam
  • Surrey Place/Central City, Surrey
  • Haney Place Mall, Maple Ridge

Walmart’s bid ultimately takes away Goodlife Fitness’s plans to expand into the former Target stores.
