VIDEO: Canadian Anthony Bennett Makes History as First NBA Overall Draft Pick

Just last week, we published a blog about the growth of Basketball across Canada. Keeping the momentum going, Canada has sent yet another player to the largest Basketball league in the world.

Ontarian Anthony Bennett has become the first-ever Canadian to be picked first in the NBA annual draft.

Bennett of Brampton, Ontario, played at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and was chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers. As a modest young athlete, he was just as shocked as the next guy, as most didn’t assume he would go number 1.

“Yeah. It’s just crazy. Made history. I can’t really complain about that. It’s just like a long time dream that I had since I first started playing basketball, even though it was six or seven years ago. It’s just crazy.”

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper was among those congratulating Bennett on Thursday evening via Twitter:
