Oftentimes, how a pet is named is a reflection of their owner: what they enjoy, what’s going on in the world, and what’s trending. But a pet’s name is always important, no matter what it is.

Rover writes, “we know how important a pet’s name is and how much thought goes into finding just the right one—which makes sense, considering it’s likely to be hollered across the house about a million times. Whether you’re basing a new pet’s name on their personality, your favorite musician, celebrity, snack food, or your current obsession, it’s got to be just perfect.”

This year, Rover found that Vancouver’s favourite dog and cat names are actually the same! It seems like people were feeling pretty predicable in 2026, as the name Luna topped the charts for both pets.

Following up the dog name list, there’s Charlie, Coco, Milo, and Bella. For cats, it’s Leo, Milo, Bella, and Kitty. So far, Vancouverites really like similar names for their dogs and cats, considering Luna and Milo made it onto both lists.
