Surrey’s future plans include a multitude of new developments including a completely different look for King George Station and its downtown core.
Many of the city’s park’s, neighbourhoods, and community centres are undergoing massive redevelopments in an attempt to revitalize Surrey’s image. As the second largest and fastest growing city in British Columbia, it is no surprise that redevelopment plans are ambitious.

One of the most interesting proposals for the city is a massive new stadium. There are no official plans yet for its construction; however, proposals from franchise operators with the Canadian Premier League have stated that they want to build an outdoor stadium. If they do, the stadium might be a Fifa-sized viewing arena.

Surrey Stadium Proposal
“A facility like this has been on our radar for some time,” Surrey Councillor Bruce Hayne, chair of the city’s Parks, Recreation and Sport Tourism Committee told the Now-Leader. “We have wonderful facilities in this city, for our residents, and we have spent a great deal of time and money and effort in developing sport facilities for residents, in all areas of sport, but what we don’t have is any kind of facility that could host a few thousand spectators for something that would be of national interest or something like that – some kind of sporting event or anything that would have provincial or national interest, so it would be terrific for the city to have a spectator facility of that size or that scope.”
The city put out a request to see who may show interest in the stadium. They want to “establish a shortlist of preferred respondents with the required expertise, capabilities, and resources” to fund a stadium of this nature.
While the specifics of the proposal remain confidential, competing bids for the stadium have until October 16th to take part in the selection process.
