Cineplex is opening BC’s first instalment of “The Rec Room” along with a new VIP theatre in Brentwood Town Centre this spring.
Each location devotes approximately half of its square footage to dining and live entertainment and the other half to amusement games and attractions. As such, the venues are immensely popular across Canada.
What’s more, Brentwood Town Centre is transforming into a futuristic mega-mall. “The Amazing Brentwood” mall will feature over 250 retail stores, restaurants, offices and a plaza connected to Brentwood’s SkyTrain Station.
In addition, the expansion will include green spaces, boulevards, and patio tables. it will also serve as a place for social events, including wine tastings, fashion shows and outdoor viewing parties for sporting events.
In Brentwood, the VIP cinema will take over the top floor of the building; The Rec Room will occupy the floor below. This provides movie-goers with the opportunity to enjoy the lounge experience, free of charge, with every movie. Also, films are fully-serviced, meaning adults can enjoy an alcoholic beverage with each show.
The Yard allows visitors to play the newest amusement games. Credits and points earned are tracked on RFID bracelets and can be redeemed at The Trophy Case redemption store for a wide array of prizes – everything from retro candy to drones, and whisky stones to portable speakers.
In fact, they even have a race car simulator that puts you in the driver’s seat! Alternatively, guests can choose to compete against friends at favourites like shuffleboard, billiards, air hockey and ping pong.

In addition, they have The Shed, offering a pizzeria with a wood-fired, dual pizza oven imported from Italy that cooks a pizza in 90 seconds. It also has a custom donut bar as well as a poutinerie that serves delectable toppings like smoked brisket, lobster and wild mushrooms.
Cineplex plans to open approximately 10-15 locations of The Rec Room over the coming years; each will range in size from 40,000-60,000 square feet and customized to the individual community.
Brentwood Town Centre may eventually become Burnaby’s main shopping centre as Council has mentioned the possibility of shutting down Metropolis at Metrotown. The potential demolition has many Burnaby residents shocked and angered.
