If you’re planning any late-night drives between New West and Surrey next week, your route might get a little complicated. TransLink has confirmed that the Pattullo Bridge will face three nights of partial overnight closures to allow crews to perform scheduled maintenance work.
The closures will take place from Tuesday, August 5 to Thursday, August 7, shutting down all southbound lanes into Surrey each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.. Northbound traffic will continue as usual, and the bridge will remain fully accessible to pedestrians, cyclists, and first responders.

During the closures, equipment will block some lanes, which is why the bridge can only handle one-way traffic at a time. TransLink is advising drivers to plan for up to 30 minutes of extra travel time and to consider alternate routes, like the Port Mann Bridge or the Alex Fraser Bridge, to avoid bottlenecks.
Public transit will also feel the impact. A few N19 NightBus trips connecting New Westminster and Scott Road Stations will be rerouted via the Alex Fraser and Queensborough bridges. Riders are encouraged to check Transit Alerts and use the Trip Planner tool before heading out to avoid getting stranded or delayed.
For those who can’t avoid the bridge, signage and traffic control personnel will be in place to guide vehicles safely. But if you’re someone who loves a stress-free commute, you might want to leave a little earlier or opt for a different bridge altogether.

These closures are part of ongoing maintenance that keeps Pattullo in working condition until the new Pattullo Bridge officially opens. With the replacement bridge on the horizon, these overnight closures are becoming a bit of a recurring theme for late-night drivers in the region.
So if you’re driving at night next week, keep your podcast playlist ready, pack a little extra patience, and maybe plot a scenic detour—your future self will thank you.
