Pan Am Games Day 6 Update – July 16

Pan Am Games Day 6 – July 16

The 2015 Pan Am Games are currently underway in host city Toronto with Canada atop the leaderboards. About half way through (Day 6 of competition) and Canada sits first in total gold medals with 34 and second overall for the total medal count with 85 (just 1 behind USA).

On Day 6 of competition, Michelle Li of Ontario took the Gold in Women’s Singles for Badminton. She faced fellow Canadian and doubles partner Rachel Honderich. The Gold-Silver pair also took Bronze in the doubles competition earlier this week. That’s what we call Canadian domination, badminton-style.

Canada also had a strong performance overall at the 2010 Winter Olympic in Vancouver claiming the top spot for total gold medals and third overall for total medals by country. Home turf goes along way for success in international sports, but also leaves a long-lasting impression after by bringing attention to the sports, athletes and resources.

On a side topic, a petition online is calling for the organizing committee of Pan Am Games to reconsider having Kanye West (American) headline the closing ceremonies in Canadian host city Toronto. Thousands of Canadians, including Torontonians, are sharing this sentiment online by signing the online petition and supporting Canadian musicians.
