New Evergreen Line Opening Summer Of 2016

Vancouver’s transit system is due for expansion–yet again!

Expected to start running in the early summer of 2016, the new “Evergreen Line” is to be the name of the newest addition to Translink. Being built for the convenience and accessibility of the Vancouver’s residents, the Evergreen Line will run through from Lougheed Town Center up to Douglas College, providing a total of seven new stops. The areas where it will be passing through are Burquitlam, Port Moody, and Coquitlam. The addition of this transit line, will not only create ease for students and commuters, but is said to potentially also improve the air quality and reduce congestion, hence the name “Evergreen”. As defined in the City of Coquitlam’s new city plan to become more of a sustainable and high-density metropolitan area, the addition of this new line will contribute greatly towards it.

The frequency of train arrivals will be approximately every three minutes, and 20 hours per day within the week; slightly less on the weekends. Fare prices are expected to remain the same and new fare gates will be set up to check for proof of payment via fare-ticket or electronic fare cards.

Upon completion, the new Evergreen line is estimated to cost $1.4 Billion!
