Get Acquainted with a Fashion Blogger; Krystin Tysire

Krystin Tysire

21 year old Krystin Tysire complements her ongoing studies in fashion marketing with her very own Vancouver-centric fashion and lifestyle blog Girl in Betsey. A fashion trip to NYC with Kwantlen’s Marketing & Design faculty proved to be a fortifying experience in Krystin’s fascination in fashion. After an internship with Western Living Magazine, she now has her sights set on pursuing a degree in Communications and growing her blog even more.

Krystin Tysire took a break from pinning on Pinterest to give 604 Now some insight into her blogging experience:

Where does your passion for fashion come from?

I have always been interested in pursuing a creative field, and loved the idea of putting outfits together ever since I was a little girl playing with my Barbies.

What made you transform your passion into your Vancouver fashion and lifestyle blog Girl in Betsey?

I wanted to document my fashion experiences in the industry from attending various events in Vancouver. The blog became an outlet for putting my style thoughts out there.

What is your focus and how do you stay relevant?

My focus is on helping the everyday women look great and put together chic outfits for work and evenings out along with weekend casual wear. I stay relevant by scouring the internet and looking at my favourite blogs and websites for inspiration: I also read many magazines and newspapers documenting life and style in various North American cities.

What has been your greatest challenge and success with the blog and brand so far?

My greatest challenge is improving my picture quality, not knowing which tools to use for editing purposes was difficult at first, but now I have managed to get the hang of it. My greatest success would be my collaborations with other companies and becoming brand ambassadors for various designers.

What social media tools do you use to grow your readership and promote fashion?

I use blog link-ups to increase readership, which is where you promote another blogger’s website on your own and vice versa. I’m also obsessed with using Instagram as it is a great platform to build engagement and find inspiration.

How did you decide to study fashion marketing?

I decided to study fashion marketing because I didn’t know which aspect I wanted to pursue in fashion as it’s a huge industry filled with various options. Fashion marketing was a stepping stone into what I learned and I wanted to pursue, which is writing and blogging. My education and blog go hand in hand and complement each other, for example, studying target markets in University helped me to increase my knowledge and ability on how to focus on a particular niche market for my blog.

Do you have any upcoming projects?

Yes, I am about to announce a partnership with Kohl’s department store in which I will be giving away a $200 gift certificate to my readers. Stay tuned for more details and check out the hashtag #KohlsxGirlinBetsey for sneak peeks into this upcoming event. I am also a style ambassador for Clearly Contacts, and have another opportunity for my readers to participate in styling challenges. A home-style partnership I am really excited about is collaborating with Chapters Indigo on their products through Instagram.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone starting a fashion and lifestyle blog?

Blog about what you love and you will be more successful and happy than you will ever dream.
