Deighton Cup Vancouver 2015 (Review)

Deighton Cup

Horse Racing at its finest – and we ain’t jockeying!

Every year, ladies and gents don their best attire – funky bowties, flashy blazers, wild mesh hats, feather hair pieces and dainty dresses – to celebrate a day at the Hastings Racetrack in honour of the Deighton Cup.

Deighton Cup Vancouver 2015 (Review)

The 7th Annual Deighton Cup took place on Saturday, July 25 from 12pm to 6pm and did not disappoint. Thousands of guests were in attendance hollering for their lucky horse to finish first in the races.

Regular tickets started at just $35 with options for upgraded lunch tickets, Marquee VIP, Cocktail Jockey areas for special rooftop viewing, and more. With every ticket purchase, $5 went to Variety – The Children’s Charity. Who doesn’t love watching stampeding horses while also supporting a great cause?

Of course, at 604 Now, we enjoy scrumptious food and treats. So we were very pleased to taste some amazing catering from Cocktails & Canapes Catering + Events. What was on the menu? There were two delectable meat options: Honkers Beer Braised Beef short rib with a Creole Demi Glaze and Cornish Game Hen (sous vide) with a gluten free roasted corn butter sauce. Both choices were accompanied with yam puree, Maple Bulliet Bourbon Pecans, and Micro Greens. The food trotted on our tongues with flavour and the aroma even made the horses stare longingly at the catering tents.

Aside from the savory items, we satisfied our sweet tooth with Espresso Caramel S’mores and fluffy Cotton Candy.

To wash it all down, we enjoyed some fabulous drinks including champagne, white wines, and a variety of import and craft beer. Our favourite was the Parallel 49 Gypsy Tears beer. This local East Van company brews up a lovely caramel malted ruby ale that we highly recommend for any event.

After losing it all on Horse # 8, we retired our fancy hats and bid adieu to the Deighton Cup – until next year, when we can rummage through our costume trunk to play adult dress-up once again. We look forward to seeing you beautiful Vancouverites in 2016!
