There are numerous parks in BC, but few are as spectacular as the Itcha Ilgachuz Provincial Park.

Indeed, this unique landscape is home to the spectacular Itcha and Ilgachuz Mountain Ranges. These sublime formations are actually isolated shield volcanoes, soaring an impressive 2,400 meters above sea level.

This beautiful park is also home to one of Canada’s most beloved native species, the caribou. With their population on the steady decline, the animals are protected in this natural habitat that is vital for their survival.

While it isn’t hard to spot deer in some areas of Metro Vancouver, seeing Caribou necessitates a trip further away; however, the journey will be well worth it.

These majestic animals are a truly a sight to behold, and there’s nothing quite like seeing them on their migration. What’s more, this range has the largest herd of caribou in southern British Columbia.

Caribou Migration in the Mountains

While seeing this migration is incredible, seeing it on horseback makes the experience all the more magical. There’s nothing like the feeling of sighting these beautiful animals while riding through this beautiful terrain on a horse. The Six Mile Ranch offers trail rides through the mountains, and gives you the best opportunity to spot these graceful creatures.

While you could go searching on your own, the chances of spotting these animals is slim to none. First, the park is huge. Second, the caribou are moving. Going with seasoned pros significantly increases your chances of spotting them in the flesh.
