Canucks To Retire Pavel Bure’s No.10

Exciting news for long-time Canucks fans: Pavel Bure aka the Russian Rocket is finally having his number 10 jersey retired by the franchise!

The Vancouver Canucks owner: Francesco Aquilini who has been talking about this for quite some time now, is expected to travel to Russia this weekend and meet the legend where he will go through the organizations plan to honour the Hall of Fame inductee.

Bure is arguably the most electrifying Canuck we’ve ever had. At one point, he was the face of the team, although he didn’t shine too bright in the public eye. For some, being the most talented player in team history will never be enough. Bure will never be lovable enough. There weren’t enough community photo-ops. He was a very private guy who just wasn’t comfortable in public, especially with fans.

A lot of Canucks players have had there numbers retired before Bure. When the Canucks retired Markus Naslund’s number, much was made of the high set of criteria they had set internally for retiring a number. Naslund met the standard by combining his great skill on the ice with a devotion to community service – something Bure lacked.

For the Canucks to Hang 10, they’re making an exception for their only Hall of Famer, considering all of Bure’s accomplishments were on the ice.

Nonetheless: He was a superstar, It’s about time he was honoured like one. – Patt Quinn.

Do you think Bure is worthy of the Canucks exception?
