Many of us utilize online shopping because it’s a convenient way to shop straight from the comfort of your own home! You may use online shopping to purchase some merchandise, but would you ever purchase a car online?
Germany-based automaker, BMW, has decided to explore the world of online shopping, by allowing customers to purchase cars online, thanks to the launch of their electrified i3 city car and the i8 sports car, which is set to be available next year for purchase. BMW will still be selling the i3 city car and i8 sports car at the dealership, however now customers have the option of buying BMW vehicles from home! The downside to this however, is that customers can’t test drive vehicles before purchasing them.
The whole concept of selling luxury vehicles online, came with the hopes of reducing costs as the vast dealer network would be automatically eliminated if online sales were the case. Another issue rises in the U.S. where automakers are not allowed to sell cars directly to customers in most states, making the concept of online car shopping a bit difficult.
Regardless, the concept is quite unique, and it will be interesting to see how far BMW can go with it!
