Earlier this March, the B.C. government announced the crackdown on slow drivers hogging the left lane on highways after receiving frequent complaints from motorists.
The Rural Highway Safety and Speed Review found there was significant public concern with slow drivers travelling in the left lane on high-speed highways, leading to driver frustration and aggressive driving behaviours.

As of June 12, 2015, highways received new signs to remind drivers to keep right, and BC police officially began enforcing the law which allows them to fine drivers for blocking the left lane on highways where the speed limit is over 80 kilometres per hour. The fine includes a $167 ticket, and three driver penalty points.
Thus far, 60 tickets have been distributed to motorists clogging up left-hand lanes as police “phase in” the new law.
