There are plenty of places locally to catch some windy waves for kiteboarding if you can’t make it down to Long Beach, California in the summer.

Kiteboarding is the definition of an extreme sport as it combines elements of wakeboarding, skateboarding, snowboarding, windsurfing, surfing, paragliding and even gymnastics. There’s plenty of momentum as the surface water sport uses wind power as its engine.
Ambleside
The west winds are known for creating fun waves and Ambleside has quickly turned into one of the more popular locations.
Squamish
The crossing of the Squamish River and the Howe Sound is a hot spot for wind sports including kiteboarding. Squamish has a number a kiteboarding schools that offer private lessons and beautiful scenery close to Vancouver.
English Bay
There is actually a ban on kiteboarding at English Bay (except the Spanish Banks extension) by the Vancouver Park Board for public safety and enjoyment.
Spanish Banks
The extension of Spanish Banks is actually a specific launch zone for kiteboarding. Additionally the Vancouver park board has permitted year-round kiteboarding at a specific part of Locarno Beach.
Acadia Beach
Tied into the specific part of Spanish Banks designated for kiteboarding.
Nitinat Lake, Vancouver Island
Island life and kiteboarding often go hand-in-hand. Private 1-on-1 watercraft assisted kiteboarding lessons are a big draw at Nitinat Lake.
Sooke, Vancouver Island
Vancouver Island has a number of kiteboarding locations a lot of which are in or surrounding Victoria. Hotspots near Sooke include Gordon’s Beach and the Jordan River.
