Typically when the BC Ferries makes an announcement, it include a price hike, but things are finally changing.. CEO Mike Corrigan has announced that the Ferry service will offer a short term promo in which prices will be slashed by 50%.

The new campaign is called 50% Off The Coast, and will help cut passenger fares during “off-peak periods”. The promo will run from September 8 to October 15, and be offered Monday through Thursday, as well as Saturday afternoons.
For adults (12 and older), the price of traveling from the mainland to Vancouver Island will now be $8.45, as opposed to $16.90. Childrens fare (ages 5 – 11) will drop from $8.45, to $4.25. Seniors travelling on major and minor routes will also receive 50% off their regular seniors’ passenger fare.
Vehicles, which currently cost passengers $55.40 on main sailing routes will not be included in the current promotion. However, BC Ferries does hint at a possibility of a discount in the near future.
“We’re going to announce some more promotions later in the fall,” added Corrigan. “We hope to look to vehicles later in the fall, and then to kids in the New Year.”
