You might have heard, or noticed yourself, that a rather big windstorm hit Metro Vancouver this past Friday.
The windstorm was so crazy the City of Vancouver had to formally close down Stanley Park, as well as cancel 25 BC Ferry sailings.
Furthermore, according to YVR Weather Records, which is run by a weather historian and forecaster, winds reached 84km/h. That made it the windiest day Vancouver has seen since 1955.
Here’s a look at the mess it created.
That wind in Vancouver was so bad today, it blew my neighbours fence over and their kiwi tree landed on my dads car 🤦🏽♂️ #vancouver @CTVVancouver @GlobalBC pic.twitter.com/q9Hhv7UeLS

A lot of people out taking pictures of the waves and enjoying the windstorm. Also, you know it’s Vancouver because all I can smell right now is marijuana. Talk about high winds. Ha! pic.twitter.com/F4AsoTwRsQ

It wasn’t all chaos, though. In situations like these, some people choose to look on the bright-side. Those people were probably the same people that decided to take advantage of the winds to go kite-surfing. Check it out:
I can barely stand up in this gusty wind, but someone’s trying to kite surf in it at English Bay #bcstorm pic.twitter.com/uWdleZXfdh

But the winds were so strong in Vancouver today that they closed Stanley Park. When I went past Kitsilano Beach there were very impressive waves. The people kite boarding and windsurfing must have been having a great time. (245 consecutive) [765] #AirWreckRuns pic.twitter.com/DydwCYQPfu

WIND WARNING?
I’m used to this in Saskatchewan but wicked winds are whipping around a sun-splashed Vancouver today.

As bad as things got here in Vancouver, it could’ve been worse. A maintenance worker in Edmonton was stranded on a window-cleaning platform outside a building when strong winds hit. They would later be rescued by firefighters.
A maintenance worker was left dangling by his safety harness after strong winds pulled this scaffolding away from Stantec Tower and sent it crashing back towards the glass.
A wind warning is currently in effect in Edmonton: https://t.co/P6qJq9w3yA #yeg pic.twitter.com/arPcQKgfv4
