Talk about one expensive cigarette. Over the weekend, Victoria Police fined a BC driver for tossing a cigarette out their car window.

Victoria police chief Del Manak handed the driver a $575 ticket for the offence.

According to his tweet, it appears the incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, June 8th on Highway 17 near Quadra Street.
“575 reasons to not throw your lit cigarette out the car window in front of @vicpdcanada” reads the Twitter caption.
“When asked why, driver replied, “I didn’t want my car to burn” as he pointed to his cup holder in console. My response, “Then don’t smoke in your car”.
Chief Manak’s ticket states that the driver violated B.C.’s Wildfire Act. Under the Act, dropping, releasing or mishandling a burning substance constitutes a $575 fine.
