The World’s Biggest YMCA Has Officially Opened In Canada

World's Biggest YMCA

The World’s biggest YMCA is officially opening up in Rocky Ridge, Calgary and we’re all jealous.

The new $192-million, 284,000-square-foot facility will include a 25- metre, eight lane pool, two ice rinks, three full-sized gymnasiums, a running track and a climbing wall.

If fitness isn’t your thing, the new facility will also have a 3,000-square-foot, open-concept library and a 250-seat theatre.

“We want to be in spaces where our resources are as available as possible to as many people as possible,” said Mark Asberg, director of service delivery at Calgary Public Library, in a release.

Construction for the massive project began in 2014 and was designed to complement the surrounding mountains and park.

Operated by YMCA Calgary, Shane Homes provided $3.5 million, to making this facility. That’s the biggest donation in the local YMCA’s history.

The City of Calgary has dubbed the facility “a community hub where Calgarians can meet, connect and be active.”

The new YMCA will host its grand opening on Feb. 1st.
