In a game that saw much animosity between the Vancouver Whitecaps (0-1-2) and Toronto FC (1-0-2), the home team ultimately crumbled losing 2-0.

The crowd of 20, 438 was alive at BC Place but it was not enough to deliver them to their first victory of the season.

The eventual turning point of the match on Saturday came in the second half.

Victor Vazquez and Jozy Altidore each scored a goal for Toronto FC in the 76th and 80th minutes.

Minutes prior, Brek Shea left the game with a pair of yellow cards. It appeared that Shea was not happy with the referee’s call and was seen talking back to the official leading to his eventual ejection.

By the same token, discipline issues are nothing new for the Whitecaps and it is something that coach Robinson knows he needs to address as the season progresses.

Both teams came out in the second looking to get on the scoreboard first.

To begin the half, Robinson subbed in Christian Bolanos who immediately added some energy to the Whitecaps offensive efforts.

Yet, with Shea out of the game, Toronto pulled away.

In the 76th minute, Vazquez finished with a header after Altidore knocked down a Raheem Edwards cross.

Just four minutes later, Altidore doubled Toronto’s lead, making a nice turn before finishing in the box.

Moreover, the game also marked goalkeeper Spencer Richey’s Major League Soccer debut. David Ousted (red card) was ineligible to play due to suspension.

The Whitecaps look to grow as a club and come out with more composure next game against Los Angeles.

Next match: The Whitecaps welcome the LA Galaxy to BC Place on Saturday, April 1st, 2017.
